Malcolm R Starkey

Dr. Starkey completed his PhD in Immunology and Microbiology at The University of Newcastle, Australia. He then undertook post-doctoral training the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College, London, before returning to Australia as a National Health Medical Research Council (2014-17) and Australian Research Council (2018-20) fellow. He is now the leader of the Immunology and Regenerative Medicine research group in the department of Immunology and Pathology, Central Clinical School, Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. His group studies how respiratory challenges in early life impair the normal development of the lung and a healthy immune system and how this may predispose to chronic diseases such as asthma, emphysema. His group also studies the immune system in the urinary tract with a particular focus on urinary tract infection, kidney injury and stone formation. The primary interest of his research group is type 2 immunity, particularly group 2 innate lymphoid cells.
